One of my favorite food-oriented journalists, Michael Pollan, is publishing a new essay this Sunday on the New York Times Magazine called "Out of the Kitchen, Onto the Couch." Pollan talks about how cooking has changed from what used to be -- a daily practice -- to what it is today -- something we watch other people do on TV. The article is fascinating, but sad.

That article was very fascinating, and also sad. But it also kind of ticked me off. I spend a fair bit of time per day cooking, but maybe around 36 mins per day for a working mother.
On the other hand, it doesn't require a lot of time to eat fresh fruit and veggies, salads, soups, or to make rice in a rice cooker or beans in a pressure cooker. So, does it really matter that I don't know how to make duck or beef bourguignon?
